COVID-19 Measures

To Our Valued Customers

UPDATE (September 06, 2021)

After reviewing the BC WorkSafe directives, as well as the PROVINCIAL HEALTH OFFICER ORDER (Face Coverings / COVID-19) – September 2, 2021) and BC’s Restart Plan, we are amending our COVID-19 policy regarding team members and visitors.  Effective Wednesday, August 25 the following plan will be in place. It is important to emphasize that by order of the Provincial Health Officer (PHO), proof of vaccination will be required to access some events, services and businesses starting September 13, 2021. New guidelines regarding this new requirement will follow accordingly.

Team Members

  • Team Members that are fully vaccine protected (2nd shot + 14 days) may be normally scheduled to work without a negative test being required.
  • Team Members that are not fully vaccine protected (no shot, 1st shot only, or 2nd shot + <14 days) will not be scheduled to work following September 13, 2021. Once mask and vaccine mandates are lifted, or they are fully vaccine protected, normal work schedule will resume as needed.

Mask Wearing Practice:

  • All Team Members must wear a mask while at work.

Visitors and Customers

Mask Wearing Practice:

  • All customers should wear a mask except while seated and enjoying their food and drinks. Very important to notice that they are required by Provincial order to wear a mask while standing, moving between tables, or walking to the washroom.

Vaccination Guidance:

  • As of September 13, 2021, it is the expectation that all CuppaJoe Team Members entering the stores or interacting with coworkers will be fully vaccine protected. This is consistent with government agency policies currently being put in place regarding vaccination requirements.

Please contact us at (604) 709-4563 or contact@cuppajoe.com if you require further clarification or cannot comply with the September 13th fully vaccinated expectation. As always, we will take our cues from WorkSafe BC (and the BC government) and amend based on the latest data.

Let’s stay safe and look out for each other.

UPDATE (July 16, 2021)

BC is in Phase 3 of the reopening plan. With this, masks are now recommended, but not required. At our store, staff will continue to wear masks. Customers can choose to wear a mask if they wish. Our sanitation and cleaning protocols are still in place. We will be allowing more seating and bringing in our new tables and creamer station (from Chop Value) this month.

UPDATE (July 1, 2021)

The safety and well-being of our customers and staff is and always will be our utmost priority. We have continually monitored the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) and put precautionary measures in place to do our part to help control the spread of infection.

We are proud to report that throughout the pandemic none of our staff contracted Covid-19, and our coffee shop remained a safe and Covid-free environment. To our loyal customers, thank you for cooperating with the safety measures we put in place!

These sanitation and safety actions remain:
  • Custom floor stickers mark two metre distances; and arrows on the floor direct customers’ flow, in and out of the store.
  • Plexiglass guard on the counter to protect staff and customers during order and payment interactions.
  • Masks are still mandatory for our staff.
  • Use of single-use gloves when prepping food.
  • Regular sanitizing of surfaces commonly touched by customers, such as all in-store handles and the POS machine.
  • Regular sanitizing of surfaces commonly touched by other staff members such as espresso machine filter handles, grinder on-off switches, light switches, etc..
  • Regular cleaning of common areas and surfaces, including the bathroom.
  • Limiting the number of customers in our store and designated patio spaces but, importantly, allowing for increased capacity.
  • We are providing paper/plastic cups for drinks and other single-use materials for food.
  • Temperature checks for staff prior to starting each shift. In case of a fever, staff know that they must return home and take all necessary precautions. If a staff member starts to feel ill while at work, we have a plan for who they should notify and how they will travel from the workplace to their home. Staff have been trained on the importance of staying home when sick.
What you can do:
  • Follow the BC Centre for Disease Control guidelines to protect yourself from infection.
  • Stay up to date on BC’s Health Officials latest news
  • Maintain two metre physical distances in indoor settings.
  • Wear a mask, if you prefer.
  • Get vaccinated. An ever-increasing number of British Columbians are choosing to get vaccinated. The more we are vaccinated, the safer we will all be.
  • If you have any concerns or suggestions, please go to our contact page and share your thoughts.
  • Be kind to our staff.

We recognize that things may change as the pandemic evolves. If/when a new area of concern is identified, or if something is not working as planned, we will take steps to continue to update these CuppaJoe COVID19 Measures.
